Americans can’t do high speed rail because we have aircraft, automobile, and petroleum industries who don’t want us to.

Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•A game you "didn't know it was bad 'til people told you so"?English3·5 days agoI enjoyed the hell out of that game. My only complaint was that the loot lacked variety, and it was a bit more on rails than what I think of as a proper open world RPG.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•A game you "didn't know it was bad 'til people told you so"?English5·5 days agoI can’t think of any that I wasn’t fully aware of the criticism.
But I did play No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fallout 76 for hundreds of hours each right at launch and enjoyed every moment without significant issues, despite being fully aware of all the hate being thrown at them at the time.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•If you have used this you are immune to all disease.English20·8 days agoIn theory, if it worked correctly, it should be hygenic and better for the environment. But as other commenters have mentioned, in reality they get jammed alot and so the same wet section gets used over and over. Or the owners don’t actually wash the roll and it just gets respooled and put back when dry.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•If you have used this you are immune to all disease.English13·8 days agoYes. It’s a reusable towel system for drying hands in a public bathroom. It’s basically a really long roll of cloth that is supposed to get pulled down as its used and goes down into another rolld and washed and put back. I haven’t seen one in a really long time.

I just tried it. Seems to be fine for me. Just brought me to a login screen.
Yeah, it feels like its all supposed to be there. But without getting any of my actual friends to make an account, its hard to test any of it out. Though the bigger issue right now is that it seems my instance (friendica.world) is down or dead. The list of other instances is also struggling to load for me.
My complaint about Friendica is that it just doesn’t actually seem to do the part of Facebook that I actually want. At least not very well. I don’t want to see news, current events, memes and crap in that feed. I want to see posts and pictures from IRL friends, life updates, event organization, interest groups, etc. With privacy settings so only actual friends you want see the posts.
In its current state Friendica seems to just be a skin over mastodon, with some alpha stage friend features.
The freakiest part about this is how believably muskrat’s face photoshops in.
The “damn it I forgot, let me google it” option, back then, was looking it up in the set of encyclopedias your family probably had. Or if you didn’t have a set, or needed more elaborate information, you went to the library.
I remember it was a big deal as a kid when we got the encyclopedia Britannica on CD-Rom. So I could just type in what I was looking for instead of having to try to find it manually.
Andrew Jackson was the cruelest so far. Give Trump more time to cook and we will see.
I often tear up from scenes from movies and tv. Yet basically never do for anything in real life.
I was listening to an NPR story the other day about how a ton of people showed up to donate blood to save an infant, and only one was a match, but it was anonymous, now the kid is a healthy 20yr old and the mom can’t thank the person who saved them. It had my eyes all mushy on my commute home.
Yet, I had a cousin, and an uncle pass within the last few months and while I was sad, and I miss them, not a tear generated.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is a celebrity you used to really like, but don't anymore?English61·16 days agoYeah, he’s super best buddies with Jenny McCarthy, and spouts the same nonsense she does.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is a celebrity you used to really like, but don't anymore?English32·16 days agoChuck Norris.
As a kid growing up in Texas in the 90s, Walker Texas Ranger was cool. Early internet memes about him were hilarious.
Then he said if he were elected president he would “Tattoo an American flag with the words, “In God we trust,” on the forehead of every atheist.”
Ever since I’ve been the killjoy, saying “fuck Chuck Norris” to anyone making a Chuck Norris is tough joke.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is a celebrity you used to really like, but don't anymore?English5·16 days agoYeah, I was never a true believer or fanboy, but back before he lost his mind and fired his PR department, I was cool with the electric cars, space exploration, solar roofs, trains, and even fun flamethrowers.

I’m pretty sure I read the other day that it’s the original founders of Digg (Kevin Rose) who bought back the corpse and are leading this with VC funding.
