Seriously? Maybe they were from out of town and cross rides aren’t a thing where they are from. At least in the US, you are not required to take a written test to drive in another state.
Also, new traffic patterns are being introduced all the time. Perhaps cross rides weren’t a thing when they took their written or driving test.
In a world where you need to continually prove your knowledge of a given area to drive there, I would agree with you. But this is not that world.
Shit happens. I’m not saying this person is right to do what they did, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that this was a mistake.
You need to run awareness campaigns when you put in new traffic signals and enforce them so people know how they work.
There are so many steps before going “fuck this guy” just on one interaction:
Enforcement: make sure they know there’s a consequence
Public transport: Give people who can’t drive worth a shit an alternative
Engineered check: Raise a physical barrier to prevent cars from taking this position or prevent cars from using the intersection altogether. Or, grade separate cars and other modes of transportation
The goal is safety and not just to shit on someone. It really could just be a mistake. We all make them. Nobody died this time. Make people aware so people don’t die next time.
