A couple of years ago, QR-bills were introduced in Switzerland as a means to make payments easier. My bank provides an app to scan the QR codes, which I prefer not to install. The only other option they provide to scan the codes is to use the webcam. Am I supposed to print my digital bills to have my webcam scan them again? Just let me upload a goddamn screenshot.
I just checked and UBS online banking does allow uploading of a screenshot. No need to use the webcam. So that’s a problem specific to your bank.
Buy a regular standalone USB webcam, and point it at the computer screen with the code in some corner.
No printing required.
Accept that you will require some workaround since you do not wish to install the QR app.
Setup eBill instead.
I do where possible, but it’s not always available.
Take a photo of the QR code with your smartphone, or display the QR code on your phone, and scan the screen with your webcam. Problem solved.
that’s a workaround, not a solution
OPs bank has provided the solution. For whatever reason, they’re choosing not to use it. I think they’re making a mountain out of a molehill.
they only claimed it was mildly infuriating
That’s totally true. I do see where they have posted. I personally disagree that it is mildly infuriating though. We’re all allowed our own opinions. If I was working in tech support and had the OP call up, their actions would come across as mildly infuriating.
Send them a feature request. Honestly. I don’t think those annoyances will become less, unless enough people complain.
You could use OBS to setup a virtual webcam, which would then show your receipts.
theres apps to stream your desktop as a webcam video source, like sparkocam by sparkosoft.com
Switzerland tends to be the best for privacy and autonomy.
