Cisgender kids have been put on puberty blockers to treat disorders like precocious puberty for decades. We know the long term effects of the these drugs and they are minimal. Surgery is only an option for 16 year olds at the youngest and that’s only with the consent of both parents. All this outrage about “saving the children” is BS that is only manufactured to draw the uninformed over to the bigots cause. Every major medical association in the US and Europe has proven time and again that gender affirming care saves lives. Best I can do is find some numbers about puberty blocker treatment, which is 17K kids over 5 years, so 3,000 kids a year are on these blockers, out of a population of 74 million.
There are definitely trans kids getting surgeries, it’s just in the hundreds value rather than thousands. 238 in 2019, 256 in 2020, and 282 in 2021 had top surgery.
Between 2000 and 2005, 72% of gender confirmation surgeries were bottom surgeries; from 2006 to 2011, that number increased to 84%. And the number of patients insured by Medicare or Medicaid seeking these procedures increased threefold between 2012-2013 and 2014.
