  • Sometimes prophecies are self fullfilling, treat a man like the worst example of the gender he represents, through no fault of his own and you might find he behaves less than appropriately.

I’m not saying that excuses the behaviour, but if women looked at me and immediately thought “potential rapist/murderer” I can’t say that wouldn’t upset me and possibly cause me to act less than amicably.

I mean what the fuck am I supposed to do? Somehow talk the worst male scum out of their depraved behaviour, or somehow try to convince all women that “I’m one of the good ones”? That’s never going to happen no matter how hard I try.

We all need to be realistic and keep things in perspective. It’s not OK to treat people as the worst of the people they identify with, it’s no better than the “all Muslims are terrorists” mentality.

  • Fair enough. If you were making the post in good faith and starting or continuing a discussion, it sounds like you shouldn’t have been banned.

I got a perma ban from r/worldnews for being a “covidiot”, I can’t remember exactly why, but I wasn’t saying COVID is a hoax, being antivax or telling people not to wear masks or anything else like that, I just had a point of view that was slightly off kilter from the echo chambers narrative. The post was on topic, I was being civil, making the argument in good faith and had written it well. I told the mod that banned me what I thought of them. Good riddance.

  • It’s not about the size of the number, it’s about presenting information in a way that the average reader can understand. The best way to do that is to present it in the way that they’re accustomed to and I don’t think I’ve ever seen scientific notation used to refer to a sum of money.

It’s great that you and I understand scientific notation, but it’s worthlesss when you’re trying to get the average person to understand what you’re writing if they don’t know it themselves.

To make myself clear, I’m not saying that scientific notation isn’t useful, I’m just saying that most people don’t understand it.

For extra credit, 74,500,000,000,000,000 aka seventy four quintillion, five hundred quadrillion.

  • There were brilliant games from the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s that ran on comparatively primitive machines. A decent phone today can very easily emulate a Gameboy an N64 or even a Playstation 1 or Xbox.

I understand that many people think good graphics = good game and vice versa but I think an interesting story, novel puzzles or original concepts are so much more important than how real a game looks. High-end computing power is simply not required to make a great game.

I agree with other people in the thread, people just don’t want to pay £40, £50, £60+ for a mobile game, they want it for free and then complain when the games are a grind unless they pay all the micro transactions. Good games won’t come unless people are willing to pay for them.
