I don’t think the 3 was a huge breakthrough, although it sure appeared to be, the S/roadster was really where it happened. The leaf had been out for several years, granted it had limited range in its first production models. The 3 was only remarkable because it had higher range at the price point, but that was more of a battery technology thing than a Tesla thing, as the bolt and leaf both had comparable range at the same price point around the same time, they just had the baggage of their manufacturers reputations and/or previous model specs holding back their PR.

I have a large room with clear story windows and the entire south wall is windows, in the desert. The roof extends out far enough to block the sun in the summer, but not in winter. In winter during the day it’s 90F when it’s below freezing outside. The amount of heat trapped from the sun coming in through windows is no joke.

Yes, the guardian app allows you to send encrypted messages through their app to their journalists. 100,000 people check the news, one person is whistleblowing. That one person’s messaging traffic is mixed in with the regular news data, so it’s not possible to tell which of those 100,000 people are the source. Signal messages travel through their servers, so anyone inspecting packets can see who is sending messages through signal, just not what the messages contain. Thats a big red arrow pointing to only people sending encrypted messages. With this implementation, those people are mixed in with everyone else just reading news or even just having the app on their device.

Sometime around 1996 for my personal Internet experience, we got it and a laptop for my mom around 1994 so she could do something while getting her master’s and my parents thought it was super cool so we kept it. We finally got a family computer with a modem in 1996. I had an email penpal. I think I spent an entire day trying to download a demo for a video game that got stopped 75% through because my mom picked up the phone.

I’ve been interested in setting up a monitoring setup like this, mostly out of curiosity about what’s going on when I’m not looking. But I know what the answer is and it’s not as exciting as I’d like it to be.

Shouldn’t be too bad. It’ll take a while, but you grab an example you have now in word, tweak it until it works in libreoffice and you’re done. The biggest issue I’ve had was constant transitions between the two. If you just move to one it’s a rough start moving, but once you’re there you just edit as always. Word isn’t even that great at keeping it’s own formatting, so it won’t be anything new except for learning a new program. it might get difficult once you get to links and embedding, I haven’t tried that in libreoffice so I can’t speak to whether it’s harder or not.

Beyond that, you should be pdf-ing any finalized documents anyway.

With all the DOGE-starlink-russia shit I’ve been reading about, I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia has a data pipeline directly to the US government, no Musk required. I would guess it would be more of a “he might tell the US government what/how we know” which would require coming up with a new golden pipeline.

Kinda like how the Cheeto Taco unwittingly showed the world the US satellite capabilities in his first term by showing a picture. There’s a lot of information Musk could tell the US about his visits with Putin, where if he was in Russia, the US is stuck guessing what made it out and what Russia has access to.

Sounds like this is a no brainer to me. I’m a step parent to a brilliant kid who’s father is a complete narcissist, and I’ll tell you this, if a parent tells you to dislike the other parent, don’t trust them without evidence. Make your own decision, and listen to the parent that let’s you make it. A caveat is that a better parent probably won’t tell you all of the bad things they’ve had to deal with, and it’s important to remember that everyone is human and makes mistakes.

It’s ok to have a relationship with both parents, and it sounds like you know which parent to trust. That doesn’t mean you need to cut your mom out of your life, you just get to have a different kind of relationship with her. I’m a fan of honesty, if either parent does something you don’t like, tell them so and ask them to stop. If they won’t, you’ve got a real good answer as to who you want to spend your time with.
