  • We (me, spouse and 1 child) rent a big house with my grandmother who I care for. It’s 4 bedroom/2 bath, got a kitchen, living room, laundry room, a large dining room and extra living room that used to be a garage. It’s my parent’s place, while they live in an apartment for work.

The huge place is not worth it. I hate taking care of my grandmother. She has dementia and I’m burned out but we can’t afford to live anywhere else.

  • It’s not just totally unattractive guys trying to punch above their weight, it’s also mid range guys who pick the hottest girl in the group and then sulk when she goes home with sometime else after doing nothing to make themselves her best option. And the sulking is pretty transparent which further lowers their attractiveness, and that kind of behavior definitely makes it back to everyone in the group. Guys really say no one will date me and literally only mean their first top choice won’t date them.

  • Yeah, but that’s just a mindset. You can turn that mindset on in the Florida summers too. When you get in your car and it’s an oven until the AC cools it you just pretend you’re in a sauna, breathing that hot air from the coals. You’re sweating while you’re doing a job/project, you just pretend it’s like hot yoga.

A hot tub feels amazing. The heat can too when you decide it does. When you finally give into the heat and decide you’re just gonna be sweaty today, it feels great.

  • Yeah, people definitely don’t understand that you can cut so much and bargain hunt the whole thing and still spend 15-20k. That’s a"cheap" wedding. The average in my area is 33k. That’s not because people are just spending frivolously and don’t budget, that’s because every single aspect of a wedding is expensive. Hell, tipping out the bar staff and photographer alone is expensive.

Skip it if you want, but even as a very frugal person, I’m very happy we had a huge party with lots of food and an open bar. It’s worth it to spend money on life rites. Life rites are like half the point of being human!

If you don’t care about celebrating with friends and family, don’t spend the money, but for us sharing the day with the people we love and merging our families was important.

  • I think it’s funny you used cheeseits as your example because that’s one of the few things I won’t buy generic of because they’re just different. Little cookies, crackers, chips, and chocolates are usually brand specific in taste (though don’t assume you prefer the name brand, you may prefer the generic!) so they’re not fungible. I’d rather skip the calories than have generic cheeseits or Doritos.

  • I feel like an adult almost all the time, but it got more common when I gave birth. I’m not a kid. I’m not a teenager. I’m not a college student. I’m a grown adult and everything I do all day taking care of others is adult stuff. Even the fun moments of playing a video game or looking at my phone hidden behind a book, or the hard stuff where I have no idea what to do. I don’t feel like a kid, I feel like an adult playing a fun game or an adult feeling confused and scared.

To me, being a kid meant feeling confident that everything was being taken care of for me. I don’t get the adults feeling like kids thing when things are confusing or hard. When I was a kid my parents dealt with the hard stuff, or at least helped me deal with it
