Ducks@ducks.devto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where can I find the old school plastic phone screen protector material?English3·2 years agoMaybe I’m ignorant but I’ve felt like phones haven’t needed screen protectors for a while… I’ve had a GS9 for years with no screen protector and I have a very very minor scratch that can only be seen with the screen off and that’s it.
I’ve never shattered a phone screen before, am I just an outlier?
Ducks@ducks.devto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•In Odessa, a man was punched in the face after antagonizing police officersEnglish6·2 years agoHow about don’t fuck with authorities when you’re in a war zone. Probably a good rule to live by to avoid getting rocked in the face, or worse.
Ducks@ducks.devto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•The girls an hour before they were killed by Russian missiles. A 19 year old girl died on the spot yesterday, and her 21 year old friend died this morning in Zaporizhzhia ICU.English6·2 years agoYour first comment makes it seem like you’re putting blame on Ukraine, even though your other comments clarify you’re not in support of Russia. At least that’s how it read to me.
Ducks@ducks.devto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Americans seem to support abortion access. Why do Republicans keep trying to block it anyway?English4·2 years agoThe article touches briefly on it, essentially even though a minority wants these terrible policies, that minority are the GOP base and are generally single issue voters and religious. That minority has an outsized say due to gerrymandering. And there is also a feedback loop in this country where the GOP gerrymanders, they cut education and other social services, blame the “enemy” for the downturn in QOL for their constituents, and repeat. It solidifies the us vs them mentality that has these people voting against their own interests.
Obviously super simplified outlook on it since it is a very complex issue. Other people in the thread have explained better.

Ducks@ducks.devto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some realistic possibilities for working from home for someone with a chronic illness and little experience?English2·2 years agoCould try to build a portfolio and apply to webdev agencies. They’re not great but better than nothing and then customer acquisition isn’t as important to the dev as it is for a freelancer

And very powerful statements from the colonel. I hope that our governments can get them the weapons they need which are wasting away in storage.

Ducks@ducks.devto World News@beehaw.org•Florida races to rescue coral bleached by record ocean heatEnglish12·2 years agoThis is pessimistic but it seems to me that Florida is absolutely and incredibly fucked. It’s not even an uphill battle to protect the keys and Everglades, it seems unwinnable without absolutely massive and rapid global shifts, or am I just a doomer?

Ducks@ducks.devto Technology@lemmy.world•Uber CEO balks after a reporter tells him the cost of his 2.9-mile Uber ride: 'Oh my God. Wow.'English2·2 years agoYou don’t need a car in Brooklyn, but I am not wrong with what I said.
As you leave Manhattan the farther away you get the more you will see cars and the less you will see public transportation options. This is an inarguable fact. From the US Census, Staten Island has the highest amount of car ownership, only 16% of households in Staten Island did not have a car in 2021. 37% of Queens households did not have cars, 55% of Brooklyn did not have cars, 59% of the Bronx did not have cars. Maybe I should have said Staten Island and Queens instead of Brooklyn, but almost half the households have cars in Brooklyn.
In Manhattan, 76% of households do not have cars.
Many parts of Queens and Brooklyn are considered “underserved” by public transportation by the city and state governments and it is a very known equity issue in the city. Improvements have been made over the recent years, hopefully we will see the new Interborough Express completed.
