I sometimes post from Mastodon to servers running this and other software. In fact the reason I’m on world. Is specifically due to its relation to mastodon.social. one of the bigger Mastodon instances I use. It’s got nothing to do with a software. If Rud and the other admins decided tomorrow to migrate the database to a different backend. I don’t think there would be much outrage or many people would care. In fact I’m certainly probably will in the future. As soon as a back end is available that provides significantly better Community / magazine moderating tools. Since I will significantly whiten the load on server administrators. Since things can be done at the community level instead of at the server all the time.

Just gonna put this out there. The devs push their stance plenty. Within their scope to do it from their echo chamber. Other than stopping development there’s little they could currently do to impact growth in any way. And there have been issues with their development focus that have negatively impacted growth. Recalcitrance to focus much on moderation tools for instance. As well as at least reported issues difficulty contributing to the project by others. Though that at least is hearsay.

So how do you explain things like marriage equality and civil rights. I’m not going to claim it counters all the negative things economic liberals do. But it certainly makes the claim muddy and specious.

There is no 2 party system either. Implying the system relies on parties. Outlaw both Republicans and Democrats tomorrow and 2 other groups will fill the void. It’s a first passed the post voting system, weighted for bigots with the electoral college. The wealthy will buyout interest in whatever parties arise. Hell many of them fund 3rd party campaigns now to keep opposition divided. And they will keep doing it as long as we stay divided. Because that’s why there has been little to no change. Nothing to do with parties, everything to do with lack of solidarity.

A few things. Communism isn’t Marxist leninism. Communism isn’t authoritarian. And it’s not just Stalin and Mao. It’s literally everywhere Marxist leninism has ever been attempted. Communism is a classless stateless society. Therefore a Marxist leninist government will never become communist. Because they are defined by their class separation of those with political power and those without, and the strong overbearing presence of the state.

There’s nothing objectionable to Communism whatsoever. And no one should have any qualms about defending it ever. What we should question is why one group of authoritarians the Marxist leninist desire to be so closely tied to it. And another group of authoritarians the capitalists demand everyone be afraid of it.

While they are and will continue to be a scam. It is at least a step up from a guy dancing around in a spandex suit like the announcement was

After all the fud and opposition they’ve pushed against it over the years. It’s nice to see them finally do things to help it.

Quick edit to add that it couldn’t come at a better time now that there are companies like system 76 out there. Making Linux compatible systems that ship with Linux that you can actually recommend to someone who is a novice to pick up. They may be on a more expensive side. But what’s your privacy worth?

It’s very relevant. Currently I would have to tell someone of said app stores existence. But then would have to hope they could find it first. Then figure out how to sideload after that. Now I could just say. Go get fdroid etc etc etc and install stuff from there. Much simpler and easier.

Anything else like having it generate the code itself, it’s more of a liability than an asset. Since it doesn’t really understand what its doing.

It’s great for regurgitating pre written text. For generating new or usable code it’s largely useless. It doesn’t have an actual understanding of what it says. It can recombine information and elements its seen before. But not generate anything truly unique.

But between those three, alda, winkler, begly Jr. They are absolutely better than Maher in every aspect. Definitely with respect to acting. Maher’s biggest role was when he played himself in piranha women of the avocado jungle.

Winkler has always been a solidly stand up guy. They say to never meet your heroes. But coming from an area where Winkler has spent a decent amount of time. And talk to a number of people who have encountered him in the course of daily life. He’s probably one of the safe ones.

Yes you don’t get things like Poe Etc. At least not on the zero models. There are hats for the full size pi. But you have full control and they are upgradable. I have a zero w in the official enclosure. Double-sided tape to a wall with a micro b cord plugged into power it. Can access the stream over Wi-Fi and get 30 frames per second 720P easy. Could easily do much better than that even. But the original Raspberry Pi camera module I think is the limitation. Because the cores on the Zero are barely being touched at all. In the low double digits if that.

It’s so light on resources that if someone had an old USB hub. And some old web cameras laying around. You could run multiple cameras off of a single Raspberry Pi zero. I think you would hit Port bandwidth saturation before you would hit a CPU limit. Unless of course you’re trying to reincode.

Not a plug and play solution. But if you aren’t averse to tinkering. RPI zero with a CSI camera and v4lrtsp server. can get you done rather cheap. Depending on your needs.
