I choose to believe all the studies that say coffee is healthy and none that say it is not. I won’t change my coffee drinking habits regardless, so best think positively?

I’ve seen it reported that if you count plea bargains as convictions, which is much closer to how Japan calculates conviction rate, that the US conviction rate is essentially the same as the Japanese one.
I was young when this episode came out and it absolutely terrified me. I still find it scary to the point where I’ll turn it off sometimes when it comes on. Great ep though, and Janeway is a badass.

FYI, We know the way is in Samoan and Tokelauan.
Fun fact, Disney worked with the University of Hawaii on a Hawaiian language dub of the movie and Auili’i Cravalho voiced Moana in that version as well. I watch it on occasion to practice my very poor Hawaiian language skills.
Am gay; can confirm.
To me, having a strong opinion means I have thought about the problem space enough to understand what I believe are the important aspects and what optimizes them. Remembering to hold them weakly in the light of previously unconsidered or under appreciated arguments prevents me from becoming overly rigid.
Make it work, then make it work right.
And it’s companion for understanding how things came to be- every complex working system invariably developed from a simple working system
Have strong opinions that are weakly held.
Don’t let “perfect” be the enemy of “good”
Now that I think about it, my principles like my life may be all about engineering…
Rewatched it yesterday. The calendar says 9/1 on the day of the riots.
Yep, John Hersey’s “Hiroshima” scarred me for life (as well it should have) when I read it in 5th grade, especially as a Japanese American whose grandfathers fought on each side of the war.
It’s certainly not moving as fast as their promises (what ever does), and perhaps has slowed, but for me at least it’s too early to call a plateau. Perhaps someone who works in the field or follows more closely can provide a better characterization, though.
I’m sitting here really hoping that models hit a plateau in capabilities soon. Continuing to get smaller/more efficient would be great, but if the capabilities of our best models would plateau for a bit and give society time to adjust to the impact I would be very happy.
There have been times in my life when I would have fled, and times in my life when I would have fought. Never for the idea of country, but certainly for the people in the country. I’m a middle aged American woman and having no family anymore, I have considered fighting for the families of Ukraine. Though not too seriously and I don’t even know if they’d take me
Maybe the real origin of the Borg were the nanobots we made along the way?
It’s super useful to know instantly if the messages are encrypted or not.
For me it’s camera shops. I love old film equipment and there’s some amazing stores.
Great food, too. One side of my family is from Amagasaki so I’ve spent way more time in Osaka than other places in Japan. Great city.
You’ve never needed AppleID to setup a Mac. I’m not positive, but I don’t think you even meed one on iPhone, though no App Store access limits the utility there.
FE2 is my 35mm camera of choice, good taste! Though to be honest, i rarely shoot film and when I do it’s usually 645 on my Mamiya
