FWIW, I think that episode is one of the weakest early season episodes. It’s somehow both too explicit and not explicit enough, because their world doesn’t make any sense beyond simply “capitalism”. The rest are a lot more in the realm of existential horror and questioning the morality of things. Black mirror just isn’t a good medium for an explanation of why capitalism is evil.

The potato famine happened because Britain stole all of Ireland’s potato’s. There were ships full of potatoes leaving Ireland regularly. There was no actual issue with growing food, except that potatoes were too cheap for the capitalists to profit off ofby selling them back to the Irish.

That’s fair, I was more annoyed with the arguments being used, because I argue in good faith for things I think are better, and get those same arguments thrown at me.

I didn’t read their comments at all, I just noticed someone being the victim of obviously circular reasoning. This site has gotten very hive-mind ish lately, and comments like the one I replied to are a big part of why. People say the same thing about me, how I’m an obvious troll because I push back on the majority narrative. The impulse to just hand wave away anyone who disagrees with you gets heavily amplified here, for whatever reason.

LMAO, that is exactly what I think, though I don’t think ive ever put it that well. It’s quite obvious that America is trying to expand it’s reach to include Ukraine, and that is fundamentally a big threat to Russia, seeing as America has made NATO into the “Fuck Russia” club. It’s kind of insane that westerners will rightly say the Russian version of imperialism is wrong, but have no issue with the American version, despite all of South and Central America being living proof of how destructive it is. It’s legitimately MORE harmful to overthrow a government and install a bloodthirsty dictator who ruins your economy for decades to come than it is to bomb cities and engage in traditional warfare.

And in case anyone thinks that was all 20th century stuff, America certainly is not done doing this, they attempted to enact the typical playbook in 2018 in Venezuela (again), by declaring their puppet, Juan Guiado, the winner of an election that was won fairly by Maduro, on top of the mercenaries sent to assassinate Maduro.

Oh man I hope so, America needs to stop screwing around in other people’s business. The only Americans who benefit from wars are those who sell the bombs. If Putin decides he’s gonna be a real problem, fight him then. Otherwise we are just lighting all our money on fire (literally) for no gain.

It helps a lot for the burgers that there are now actually good fake meat options. Before the Impossible burger you basically had to lie to yourself to think fake meat was equivalent.

This only works if you’re America, and even then only somewhat. Everybody else has to fear other places not valuing their currency as highly.

If it was a corporation, absolutely. It’s part of the risks they’re taking on as a business. But for a government, which is by definition non profit, you kinda have to mandate return of the funds. Otherwise the government as a whole could collapse.

You see, I agreed with your first section. But given your 2nd section, now I question the 1st as well. Hamas does not want to genocide anybody except the people genociding them. Which is an extremely obvious reaction to genocide. Jews wanted to kill all Nazis, were the jews calling for genocide? Would you have both sides the victims of the Holocaust like you are the victims of the current genocide?

I’m pretty sure your 1st section is still correct, but when you’re right about stuff, don’t follow it up with bullshit, it just brings the rest into question.

At least in my opinion, Hamas is the good guys. They are also labeled as an extremist group. So are we actually wrong to say ISIS is universally bad? I mean, both groups took power is response to foreign invaders just full on wrecking their shit constantly. Both groups employed Gorilla warfare to most effectively damage a far superior military. I’ve been recognizing more and more lately that America is almost always the bad guys in wars. So does that imply that ISIS was actually the good guys?
