Or imagine the Flintstones advertising cigarettes to kids in the middle of the show.
Or comedy shows named after the sponsoring toothpaste company with sponsor breaks throughout.
Sure it’s gotten really bad lately, but mass media has always been rife with obnoxious advertising, both in-your-face and subliminal. The early days of Netflix streaming were really the anomaly as far as access to non-pirated ad-free media. The broadcast TV generation had their coping mechanisms with the mute button and eventually DVRs, but “media without ads” has basically never been a thing.
And what does it say right above that?
An invented term for a South Asian person.
And from CubitOom’s link:
An invented Indian-sounding given name
And from the sources cited on Wikipedia:
a derogatory made-up Indian name originating on 4chan in 2015
First seen on 4Chan, The term “pajeet” is an ethnic slur, coined as a derisive imitation of Indian names

According to the link above, and the Hindu American Foundation, it’s not a real name and is exclusively pejorative.
The craziest thing about all of your examples is that they weren’t even revolutionary. We already had Vine, Skype, and YETI cups. How the hell did they get everyone to believe that TikTok, Zoom, and Stanley cups were game-changing new ideas?
Thunderbird4@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My dearest Lemmy, what is the appliance you have the most beef with?31·2 months agoSounds like mine. Shrill beeps that can’t be cancelled, muted, or interrupted, although I think mine is 30 seconds before the reminder beeps.
My favorite part, though? It beeps when you open the door. Like, just as a sound effect. I, the user, your god and your master, am the one who opened your door. There is no status to notify me of, there is no input to confirm. It’s just useless racket that can’t be eliminated without hardware modification.

It's brand new.English4·2 months agoSure, it also irks me when people start with the “nazi car” and “designed by Hitler” nonsense. The origins of the company aren’t something to be celebrated, but they’re not something to be denied either. And like you say, no German car company is totally clean, including use of slave labor by VW, Mercedes, and BMW.
Still, I see the post-war, civilian production of VWs as an example of the success of the reconstruction of West Germany rather than a continuation of any nazi ideology.
Thunderbird4@lemmy.worldto NonCredibleDefense@sh.itjust.works•What do you mean you've 'seen this one'? It's brand new.English8·2 months agoI would generally consider myself a VW apologist, but what you’re saying is simply not correct. They didn’t just make “a few vehicles for the military,” they produced over 50,000 kubelwagens, over 15,000 schwimmwagens, and hundreds of officers’ vehicles. They were the primary manufacturer of light military vehicles for Germany during the war. To this day the schwimmwagen holds the highest mass production figures of any amphibious vehicle.
Here’s an info plate out of a 1943 kubelwagen, with (uppercase V) “Volkswagenwerk G.m.b.H.” across the top, just as they did all through the Ivan Hirst and Heinz Nordhoff eras.
They even had nearly the same logo going back to before the war. This is an example of the “cog emblem” as seen on the hood of a 1943 Volkswagen.
Yeah, that is the joke. It’s kinda like The Pack type humor in that it’s mocking how out of touch the demographic that would usually make this kind of complaint is. Modern jazz musician culture is a whole lot of meta-absurdist humor.
Thunderbird4@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Trump says US will 'go as far as we have to' to get control of GreenlandEnglish22·3 months agoI think it’s really dangerous to keep dismissing the Greenland talk as a distraction. We have learned the lesson dozens of times before not to dismiss anything he says because it’s just “crazy talk.”
Taking control of Greenland and Canada would give a US-Russian alliance complete control over the Arctic circle, which has been a tactical goal of Putin’s for decades.
The day could come very soon when the US will take military action against Europe on behalf of Russian interests, and the rest of the world should take it seriously and prepare.

Thanks for a lot of useful replies, everyone. Sorry I ghosted my own post for a couple days. I’m seeing surprisingly few people who actually use or used TrueNAS, so maybe that’s something to consider moving away from. I’ll have to weigh my options.
Thunderbird4@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does the US really have no instruments in case a newly elected president immediatelly and openly exposes he's a nazi?111·6 months agoDude just can’t run/be on a ballot.
We tried that. The states, ostensibly, run federal elections independently of the federal government and decide who goes on the ballots. Colorado, Illinois, and Maine removed trump from their 2024 ballots on the grounds that he was ineligible under the 14th amendment. SCOTUS struck it down saying that the states (who, again, are supposed to have authority to run and administer federal elections within their territory) do not have the authority to enforce the insurrection clause of the 14th amendment.
Nah, I’d rather push them into embracing actual, full on nazi symbology. Believe it or not, the majority of the American public do not see republicans as nazis. The sooner they look like it, the sooner the last plausible deniability falls, and the sooner the “cheaper eggs,” “voted for the economy” idiots have to face the realities of their decisions.

They still blew up their launch pad and showered a protected wildlife area with particulate, metal, and concrete debris.
They then built and operated their water deluge system without obtaining permits.
Typo or no, they’re still taking a fast and loose, “better to ask forgiveness than permission” approach that is a detriment to a protected natural environment. They intend to test the limits of the Texas government’s ability to show disdain for the environment in favor of private enterprise.
Thunderbird4@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•NASA is about to make its most important safety decision in nearly a generationEnglish198·11 months agoIt’s not just blind hate for Elon, they’re genuinely terrible stewards of the environment in south Texas. They constantly lie about their intentions and impact to avoid having to take responsibility for anything. Say what you will about how independently they operate from his input, this is definitely a company culture that he cultivates and promotes.
