They’re not fresh. The fairy demands the freshest teeth but long ago ancient humans made a pact with the tooth fairy. In exchange for humanity to cease its hunt of the tooth fairy, the TF will stop hunting children in their sleep to pursue the freshest and most desirable teeth. Centuries later, with the advent of capitalism, the humans rebelled and demanded compensation for the teeth to be given to the children. The TF, seeing the advancement of human warfare capacity quickly agreed to a small stipend per child in order to continue its harvesting.

They don’t want you to know about the dish gnomes forced to work in tight spaces under terrible conditions.

In my mind, they’ll either think I’m in the southern US or just get confused.
assembly@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•AI is rotting your brain and making you stupidEnglish31·1 month agoThat’s the claim from like every AI company and wow do I hope that’s what happens. Maybe I’m just a Luddite with AI. I really hope I’m wrong since it’s here to stay.
assembly@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•AI is rotting your brain and making you stupidEnglish4·1 month agoYeah that’s a big part of it…shifting off the stuff that we don’t think is important (and probably isn’t). My view is that it’s escalated to where I’m using my phone calculator for stuff I did in my head in high school (I was a cashier in HS so it was easy)…which is also not a big deal but getting a little bigger than the phone number thing. From there, what if I used it to leverage a new programming API as opposed to using the docs site. Probably not a big deal but bigger than the calculator thing to me. My point is that it’s all these little things that don’t individually matter but together add up to some big changes in the way we think. We are outsourcing our thinking which would be helpful if we used the free capacity for higher level thinking but I’m not sure if we will.
assembly@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•AI is rotting your brain and making you stupidEnglish274·1 month agoThis is the next step towards Idiocracy. I use AI for things like Summarizing zoom meetings so I don’t need to take notes and I can’t imagine I’ll stop there in the future. It’s like how I forgot everyone’s telephone numbers once we got cell phones…we used to have to know numbers back then. AI is a big leap in that direction. I’m thinking the long term effects are all of us just getting dumber and shifting more and more “little unimportant “ things to AI until we end up in an Idiocracy scene. Sadly I will be there with everyone else.

Any cool stories?13·2 months agoUses to go to Mountain Jam at Hunter Mountain in NY almost every year. It’s still a smaller event than the big ones and I think it makes a huge difference. It’s amazing but I haven’t been since before the pandemic. Camping with a couple thousand of your closest friends that you’ve never met while live music plays all day and night is incredible. Just migrating between campsites and sitting down for beers with everyone while they do the same with your campsite is a lesson to humanity.

The only thing I really dislike is the battery life but to fix that you’d need to get a Garmin or similar. So can’t think of a reason I would upgrade.

They kill off everything else they build so realistically they are just an ad company at this point which offers a declining search engine. While they won’t be dethroned anytime soon in search, they keep making it worse so I have to imagine it won’t be gaining users. If they did break it out, maybe that will improve search.

There are no longer checks and balances and it’s a very dangerous place at the moment. They’re removing all accountability for the border patrol and any immigration adjacent services so they can now do whatever they want. You’re at the complete mercy of the immigration service and they have full latitude to do whatever they want (legal or illegal) as the threat of repercussions have been removed. Be safe out there.

assembly@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Russian Su-34 supersonic fighter-bomber shot down by F-16: reportsEnglish254·9 months agoThat would be super helpful. Everyone always says that the A10s would be too vulnerable to AA but I’m guessing it’s survivability in the skies of Ukraine will probably be higher than helicopters and they are still flying those. A10s will absolutely decimate Russian lines if they can get close.
Home labs everywhere will soon have super cheap hardware options from PCs that can’t update to Windows 11 but are capable of running multiple virtual machines (like windows 11).

From what I understand, the US is now an oil producing country due to fracking so we won’t see results like the oil embargo of the 70s, just increases in prices. Increasing the price of oil will increase the profits to Republican donors. I do wonder what the products of the closure will look like.
