I have not once heard of legislation here that genuinely violated people’s rights other than Victoria’s snap lockdown of a group of apartment buildings during COVID, which got the government into a class action lawsuit.
Saying you value free speech, then saying that people who can violate others rights should also have freedom of speech in that regard, seems like you don’t know anything about what free speech is all about.
In Australia, and likely in most other countries, rights come with responsibilities. Our freedom of political communication, as outlined in the Victorian Human Rights Charter, doesn’t allow us to infringe on others’ rights to feel safe. Public expressions of neonazism can intimidate and threaten community safety, which limits that freedom. Just as we can’t harass or incite violence, any form of expression that undermines others’ rights to safety is restricted.
I myself also believe freedoms shouldn’t be tarnished by outrageous legislation, but I don’t believe this is an example of that, as it protects other people’s rights more than the ones prosecuted.

Honestly I don’t get the hype about the US presidency, like sure, it was kinda shocking at first how Trump won, but after that I accepted it. I’d rather listen to other issues than the same thing over and over again.
I also find it wierd that many of the fellow Australians around me know more about American politics than Australian politics, likely just because our media covers it to no effing end, sure, do one news story, but not a fucken bajillion.

I agree with the premise of this statement, although this was about someone saying “religion of peace” to mock the Muslims who say it, I don’t believe that’s bigotry, it’s just irony. Also, who knows, maybe Catholics or some other religion commit more of these acts, but it’s difficult to know through the news alone, and religion of peace is already a Muslim stereotype, fully justified or not.
For the record though, I also follow your stance about not being nice to bigots, unjustified hate should only stay in the mind, but that possibly has the risk of radicalising someone further.

Both of these are pretty great candidates, they both have quality content formats and are somewhat more comfortable to use than perplexity in their unique ways, mainly due to minimalism. A drawback of both are that they are slower to answer but not excruciatingly slow.
I just tried morphic.sh and ayesoul.com and both are solid alternatives I must say, although as I said, I just tried it so I’ll see how it goes, I’ll probably add an edit to this comment once I get acquainted with both.
Of course the one fucking service that’s actually useful for me acts like this… Ig I gotta find an alternative now…

The fact that whenever I open myGov on my iPad, and immediately see “connect your digital ID” makes me never want to do that. They also want me to use this ID, which is linked to my Medicare, citizenship, voting, etc., For social media and other accounts, which instantly rings alarm bells in my mind, the government and corpos knowing that I am exactly who I am, and that I am likely not able to disconnect it from myGov nor the social media platforms it could regulate.
