    • Good keyboard with text navigation keys (Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down) and a sensible layout: delete at the top right, no stupid replacement of normal modifier keys with fingerprint readers or copilot keys, no tiny arrow keys, etc.
    • Good touchpad that’s precise, doesn’t lag, and allows clicking on most or all of the total area

I don’t think these should be that important. Even if one uses a single device for every need in the form of a laptop, one can still attach a keyboard and mouse to it. The worst customizable keyboard and wireless mouse will still be better than whatever the laptop has built in.

  • I have an acquaintance who is a lead Dev at an Indie studio where he is developing and training an NPC behaviour engine with thousands of responses and actions. Think fallout or mass effect response wheel, where 2-4 dialogue choices have 2-4 outcomes, but instead you can tell the NPC anything and it will have a different response. Or it will do different things whether you hand it a book, give it book, throw a potion at it or cast a healing spell on it or hug it. It could also change tactics if you tried to snipe it vs if you went at it melee. All of these are trained and accounted for and made in a way where it can be built into any game using a certain engine. And this is just aimed at generic npcs, not companions.

So if this is what disclosure of the use of generative AI means, I’m not against it. I think there is nuance to what can be done with it. Using final art assets? It’s theft. Writing? Theft. NPC behaviour? Definitely not.

  • What a shitty info graphics. Says Europe and then doesn’t even touch anything past the Iron Curtain. What is this, 1989?

Hungary has 11 public holidays. And the number of vacation days are mandated by age, starting with 20 days at age twenty and then gaining one additional day every two years, so at forty-five and above for a total of 30. Since this is not based on tenure, it doesn’t matter whom you work for. Plus two more days for the first two kids, and an additional three for the third for a total of seven.

This is on top of 15 covered sick days, which you can also take for taking care of sick dependents under the age of 12.

  • Ireland has a big infrastructure problem, that’s for sure. If you live anywhere between Limerick and Dublin, well good luck getting around without a car. It’s amazing how a country that’d be in an ideal position to have year round acceptable temps for cycling, barely any hills to speak of, and no extreme weather excuses either to keep up transit infra, is so regressive that they chose to go the route of 70s North America instead of becoming a second Netherlands or Denmark.

They actually have more problems. For example look at its population. It never recovered after the great famine. And they always whine about one thing or another. But they do anything except for the right thing to actually attract young people wanting to have children.

The whole country outside of four urban centres is an absolute nightmare if you don’t drive, and just not conductive to establishing a family anywhere.
