I think the rest of my communities haven’t seen activity lately, so I’ll have to post in them first!
Avatar is a lemming in bed because this account wasn’t intended to be used except for creating communities… and then my instance announced it was closing.

They were good before (and please correct me if I’ve got this wrong) EB bought them and did a “reverse takeover”. Since that point they’ve been going downhill.
Do you ever get that thing where the more you look at a word the more it looks wrong? I’m getting that with “would” and “could” after reading this thread.
I don’t think I’ve ever used Dear to start an email; always Hi for as long as I remember.
I don’t like To, it always seems like a command rather than a greeting. I write it on cards and stuff but it always leaves a niggling feeling of wrongness.
If it calls for 200g of aubergine, then you can weigh that at the shop… It’s more convenient at that end, and you can get the right amount.
Depends what it is. In this instance I was buying cups of fruit, how many cups are there to a punnet? I already have the weight on the packaging, so if I know the weight I need it’s much easier.
I’m amazed they are that uncommon. Here (UK) you can walk into a supermarket and pick them up for less than £20.
Some good answers here, thanks everyone, I’ve learnt some stuff today. 🙂
Not quite the same as Stones and Kilogrammes are both units of weight. Using cups is like weighing somebody using those luggage size baskets in the airport.
Yeah, that’s the sort of thing which worries me. I suppose if it’s a recipe which doesn’t need precise measurements it doesn’t matter.
Mastodon, Bookwyrm, Mbin, and I’m also on a test instance of Takahē (Mastodon compatible microblogging platform) which I quite like for the multiple personalities feature.
A Jellycat Dexter. So adorable but silly expensive for a cuddly thing (I was rewarding myself after having to go into hospital for an invasive test).
When I was growing up, if I wanted anything it was, “do you need it?”. This was drilled into me so much I feel a bit guilty for buying random things even though I can afford them, and I always think long and hard about purchases very rarely buying anything on impulse. Usually I see something and have to go back (weeks) later to buy it after it has been playing on my mind.
There’s also some sort of soft blocking option, which largely hides the instance AIUI but still gives the ability to follow users. This seems like a better option rather than completely defederating.
If Meta want to scrape your data they can do that anyway. All defederation does is stops you looking at their stuff (which, as you say, can be blocked at the user level anyway)
Yeah, same. I used to care about my job, but after lots of changes it appears that my opinion isn’t worth much any more, and whatever I do there’s one particular person who constantly complains that they had to fix something I did (yet doesn’t tell me at the time, I always find this out later during a rant/comment), or that I haven’t done something which is apparently vitally important simply because he decrees it so, and if I try to improve things that’s wrong too (despite that he seems to get away with “improving” things with no comeback and no fights - which has previously meant my responsibilities are no longer mine). Basically he’s the bane of my working life at the moment and he isn’t even management. So now I’m done with caring and just try to stick to stuff I do which either nobody else wants to do or nobody else knows much about, and if that doesn’t fill up much of my day so be it. At least that’s not going to be constantly questioned and it looks like I’m still valuable.
No, it’s a cross platform standard. You can even run a server on Linux interfacing with SANE to convert older scanners.
I looked up the non-Apple name and it’s eSCL. That’s a lot easier to search for.
Yes, you can now use AirScan (also called something else I don’t recall currently) for “driverless” scanning.
How was your delivery?
Rubbish!
They need to be trained on the film “Wargames”. Or forced to pay Noughts & Crosses against themselves.
I don’t know. Mastodon already supports audio posts, how does that federate? Why can’t Threads do the same thing?
I was going to put Bedfordshire in brackets next to that, but I forgot. I knew it could cause confusion!
