Pssh, I’ve got seven on my head alone. Everyone forgets about the ears, but who doesn’t like aural sex?

idiomaddict@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever had a thought that was *so dumb* that it actually made you sick to your stomach when you realized just how dumb it was?18·1 天前I once wondered aloud how they get tanning beds to emit vitamin D. I then immediately corrected myself by saying that it was photosynthesis, which is technically correct, but doesn’t sound right in the context of animals. I did not feel smart.
They all are, once, unless people are selling unsealed jarred goods. I don’t remember what it was exactly, but it would have been something I used when cooking breakfast, so maybe salsa.
Yep, I was PISSED. I can’t even eat pork and was just being a good houseguest the morning after a party, and then suddenly had to clean up a bunch of shattered glass and pork fat in someone else’s kitchen.
Canning jars are made to withstand temperature changes though.
I pour when it’s hot to the touch, but not unpleasant, so probably around 50-60 C
It won’t necessarily shatter it, but it absolutely can. I’ve done it with a jar I had washed the original product out of shortly beforehand. Just because it’s never happened to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
It depends on where you’re from, glass jars/drinking glasses in Germany don’t shatter from thermal shock, but they do in the US.
I reflexively yelled at my boss once because he poured recently boiling water out of a glass and turned the cold faucet on to rinse it out while scrubbing, and I thought he was about to cut the shit out of his hand. He got contemplative for a moment and then said that he had forgotten that that used to happen in Afghanistan (where he was from), but it doesn’t happen in Germany.
idiomaddict@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•What sort of grill needs a firmware update lol3·3 天前I’m an immigrant (not a refugee to be clear) and this excerpt absolutely nails the camaraderie aspect of it and the way that living in immigrant neighborhoods/buildings feels. Turns out, Doctorow’s father was born in a refugee camp.
idiomaddict@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Chef's food 'decoration' at Chinese pre-school poisons 233 childrenEnglish1·4 天前My first thought: wow, the PPE for the people making road signs must be so involved!
My second thought: unfortunately, probably not at all.
idiomaddict@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Chef's food 'decoration' at Chinese pre-school poisons 233 childrenEnglish421·4 天前If there were a crime which deserved the death penalty (there isn’t), intentionally poisoning more than 200 children would be it. It’s technically possible that they’re really negligent and stupid, but hiding the paint was definitely intentional and probably caused additional harm by delaying treatment.
Sometimes I just want to vomit forever. That’s so malignantly perverse
idiomaddict@lemmy.worldto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that the first victims of The Holocaust were murdered at the Dachau concentration camp in 1933, and the Bavarian Justice Ministry tried to prosecute the SS for the murders.English14·8 天前I will always be hated for this but fascism is necessary. It is the whip of the owning class. As long as you have capitalism, you have fascism.
In more detail if you wish:
Normal society: Person make chair, person sell chair, person eat
Thats the “natural” way of things.
Capitalism:Person make chair, person get tiny cut of chair because [mArKeTiNg cOsT, responsibility, land ownership and other bogus excuses], person eat less, capitalist eat more.
People dont really accept this because it is not natural or fair. Therefore you need a couple of things, depending on the stage of capitalism:
the carrot (you will have your own house! you will buy cool things! you can be rich!)
the veil (propaganda, telling you why it is the only thing that works, why you just need to comply, because compliance will be rewarded…)
the stick (a militarized police force that will shoot you if you dont comply)
As you can see, all western states are currently going down the “military disguised as police” route. Why do you think that is? It is because the capitalists want more yachts.
And after 100 years of propaganda, we actually believe there never has been a better system.
Have a great day.
That’s the full quote, I really don’t see how you’re reading this and thinking they support fascism (or capitalism, for that matter). It’s not great phrasing, but it looks to be an indictment of capitalism on the grounds that it relies on deceiving and abusing the populace.
Was it edited or can you explain how you’re interpreting it?

idiomaddict@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any nurses lurking around here on Lemmy? Is there a medical community for general discussion, debriefing, comradery, and/or stories/memes?1·9 天前If the goddamn early shift would learn to sweep the floor or clean up after breakfast, maybe I’d have time to close :)
idiomaddict@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the best music to put on while you clean your house?3·10 天前That’s a great song for my students! I teach German, not French, but a LOT of my students have trouble distinguishing between the following (emboldened) vowels: tomber la chemise. This makes the difference between them really clear and will probably help sensitize them to the vowels :)
Also it’s fun to listen to.
He was probably not intending to have two bodies’ worth of water displacement.
