It doesn’t need to be the answer. It just needs to be an answer for certain use cases. Both platforms can easily coexist. That’s the beauty of federation.

One thing I would add is that Lemmy is a particularly sensitive case, because we really want to encourage activity and growth at this stage. It pains me when communities without much activity get a meme post or something that makes it into /all and the mods remove it for being off-topic.

Overly strict moderation is one of the fastest ways to drive people away from a platform. Just follow your natural instincts and let people post what they want as long as it’s not harming anyone.

ATProto is what Bluesky uses, right? It’d be nice if someone could give a quick summary of the features and what differentiates it compared to ActivityPub.

Yeah I guess that’s true, they are defederated from us but technically we aren’t defederated from them. But they still can’t see anything that SJW users post or participate in our communities. And same for lemmy.world, etc.

So you only really see them when they comment on lemmy.ml communities for the most part. There are a lot of lemmy.ml sublemmies to be fair.

Lemm.ee is a really good server but if hexbear and lemmygrad annoy you, then it’s not the right fit for you.

The best way is to make an account on a server that doesn’t federate with them. Sh.itjust.works, lemmy.world, and most other large servers are defederated from hexbear and lemmygrad.ml.

Apparently lemmy.cafe is defederated from those as well as lemmy.ml. Be aware that a good chunk of major communities are hosted in lemmy.ml, so you won’t be able to access those if you’re defederated.

Unfortunately even if you block them, you will still see posts and comments that users from that server make on external communities. It’s only by being fully defederated that you won’t be able to see any of their content at all.

Lemmy can be really fucking weird about certain topics. People here should probably touch grass more frequently.

FWIW, I totally get the way you feel about greentexts in general. I think it’s a very natural reaction, and those of us (myself included) who enjoy these posts without reservation are actually the unusual ones who have been desensitized by a lifetime on internet forums.

There’s a certain jaded callousness, seasoned with a sprinkling of cynicism and misanthropy, which allows one to most fully savor the fruits of c/greentext 😂

Idk if admins need to manually approve registration applications for Mbin. Many smaller Lemmy instances are set up that way, so it may also be the case for Mbin.

Regardless, whether the registration is reviewed manually or automatically, the admin is the one who will be able to help you.
