Average includes the extremes. Trump, Putin and King Elizabeth all grew up in different parts of the “good” world with extreme wealth and power and all of them became assholes. At some point, you have to think that humanity is bound to end at this point whatever you do.

Also, this is another hot take but they are what they are because we let them be. Every American is complicit in Trump’s actions whether they voted for him or not. If we really cared, we would have stormed the White House by now. We don’t, so we don’t. I know I don’t care enough about Ukraine or Palestine to do anything other than online discussion or boycotting some brands.

This problem is US specific, I guess. Many countries disallow politicians to trade or at least limit it severely.

Disagreements are more important than agreements, otherwise it just forms echo chambers

There is no real “guidelines” about what votes should be used for. Some people use upvotes for visibility, some use it for agreeing. Downvotes are used for disagreeing, reducing visibility, ad hominem, what not.

Wow, that is something. People are so fucking touchy about this war. This extreme prejudice against people who are even slightly anti Ukraine are banned left and right, no nuance.

Thing is votes are federated. if someone makes an instance and farms votes by making bots on same instance, only instance owner has info about IPs. Every other instance thinks the votes are legit.

It is not about the vote. It is about knowing what is public and what is not.
