  • Sure but the generation of new hydrocarbons from sequestered resources means net available carbon increases. You’re totally right that converting existing atmospheric CO2 to methane would have a larger impact. I’m not saying agriculture is off the hook here, nor that we should consider the horse as a solution to climate change, just that we probably wouldn’t need this conversation without fossil fuel extraction.

  • Cars run on gas, horses run on grass.

Livestock contribute by land use (deforestation, crops for feed, pasture), water consumption, and the fossil fuel used in logistics processes (farm equipment, transport, electricity, etc…)

But anyways, animal farts come from preexisting carbon in the biosphere. Car farts come from extracting previously sequestered carbon. So without extractive processes, and with ethical land use/management, the atmospheric methane wouldn’t have a significant impact.

Also you fart too. So there’s that…

  • This.

DO NIT WALK/COMPACT YOUR REGULAR PATHS BEFORE SHOVELLING! SHOVEL THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

If you have compacted snow you will have to stab it top down with a round end steel shovel crcking apart 10cm(4") sections the whole way.

Spent the better part of last winter fixing the mistake i made in my first week of snow. (125m long path).

If you have wood oven heating then keep your wood stock close to home. My shed is 30m away and it gets real old hauling across every few days. I also use a plastic bin to carry it now. A lot easier than a wheelbarrow as you can walk right into your house and to your inside wood shelf.

Boot chains are really great, not the spikes, chains. Especially if you have a dog that gets excited and pulls.

If you have a long driveway consider a plowing service, your local farmer will probably do it cheaper(than you think) than a commercial service if you’re rural.

    Stock up on food/water.

Otherwise there’s not much to it.

Freezing cold is +3C/-6C, then -18C and below. The -6C/-18C range is actually very comfortable.

  • It can depend on the person so it’s a general concept. I think if someone is asking for a critique they would ask more directly. Culture also plays a big role. I’m speaking from a USA cultural viewpoint.

Bah, screw that! People like making others feel good. It makes you feel good to know another person is pleased. So what if you fish for that sort of engagement unless you’re being an incessant little dictator?

  • Ehh for some it’s natural to understand, for some it’s learned, for some it’s off the radar completely.

Asking for compliments is fine but people are insecure so they do it indirectly.

“How do you like this dress/these pants/this whatever” would be someone giving an opportunity to compliment them. But they would be uncomfortable with asking, “can you compliment this …”

You’re right that it’s not <good> communication. It’s super taxing for me as i’m in the learned group edging on off the radar(i naturally interpret teasing as bullying). So i just try to compliment people regularly at least once every time i spend time with them to make up for it. More on dates and in relationships.

  • I use the site daily. Being able to download FREE CAD models in one click, nominal dimensions for nearly everything, and linked compatible components makes design so much simpler. I can swap a screw out in my assemblies in seconds. Other online hardware catalogs just don’t compare. It’s the perfect first draft resource.

If McMaster ever goes down it’s going to take twice as long to do any design.
