Where there’s no “agenda” or biased mods/admins. I’d love a good community where if there’s issues, it’s handled fairly and with respect to both sides of the argument.
I don’t care how big or small it is. I’m willing to help it grow if need be, but I’d like to find somewhere that isn’t so obvious with its bias.
What kind of bias?
The overwhelming majority of time I see those requests, it’s right wingers being offended by basic respect of human beings that they deem to be inferior and want to freely discriminate against.
I tried free speech absolutism in the past and it always ends up with incredibly toxic communities. Moderation is good.
In 10 years even on Reddit, I never had any encounters with mods or admins. I’ve never been able to find the tyrannical mods that everyone whines about.

On a more serious note - there’s no such thing as unbiased. I’d like to believe I run my instance in a fair way, but I can’t guarantee you’d like my definition of fair.
Make your own instance. There’ll still be bias but at least it’ll be your own.

Everyone is biased and that’s ok. It’s better to know your own biases then pretend they aren’t there and be affected by them anyway.
I only really bias towards empirical truth and evidence. Along with accepting that life provides a shit ton of nuance and not wavering is it should be as polarized as people make it out to be.
This goes for pretty much everything.
Empirical truth can only go so far. I say this as an engineer. We only have so much evidence of anything. And the first thing they started teaching in my engineering classes was how to handle unknowns. Because they are what is dealt with every day.
You’re right, nuance is everywhere and life is complicated. But asserting your only bias is toward truth is probably the biggest lie you tell yourself. I get it, I’m a big fan of capital T Truth as well and in certain fields, like science and (good) journalism, being perfectly unbiased is held as the gold standard (it’s an impossible one). And being honest with yourself is hard. But disbelieving your own biases is a great way for them to take over your life and you’ll never know.
I apologize for being harsh. Text is a blunt medium. I would just encourage you to really look at your day to day interactions and try to spot when you’re being judgemental. And you’ll miss most of it, that shit runs on autopilot and it takes practice to notice. And most importantly, don’t think that having biases is inherently bad. It’s human.

That depends on personal experience. Often we don’t think of something as biased until we find the bias. Some people might mention a bias they see that others don’t, and others vice versa. And bias is a spectrum. And sometimes the people have a bias but not the management, and vice versa. And even then, a place could be biased but tolerant or intolerant but unbiased.
If I had to choose, in my experience, Mastodon has been cozy. If only it had more people. Maybe that’s why it’s comfy.

Yes, in fact they tried riding off the fact Musk bought Twitter. Which in hindsight is understandable. To this day, Musk’s bias is the easiest bias in the world to underestimate. Still on both sites though, it on its own is not bad as it’s their sites.

In general, I think that most instances give an up-front impression of how the instance admin wants to run things based on their rules.

Clearly some instances have tons of bias, so asking for the opposite should be possible.
i think we’ve all seen enough chuds whine about their freeze peach. i also think it’s pretty naive to think there exists an instance without bias: that would be like saying there is a newspaper or tv news without bias.
so i don’t think this is a good question. it betrays ignorance or naivete, and can’t really be answerd succinctly.

At feddit.uk we have a pro-tea bias (!tea@feddit.uk) and a definite inclination towards talking about the weather.
All instances have an agenda. Some of them align closer to your ideals so they feel less notorious, but would be obvious for someone of opposing ideology.
I personally like dbzer0. Anarchist instance owned by a former moderator of the piracy subreddit. (Obviously if you are right leaning politically you won’t be welcome, but that goes for basically the entirety of lemmy)
So they are biased then? (In an awesome way, admittedly, but still…)
Bias doesn’t have to be a dirty word.
For example, I’m biased against CSAM and people who try to use apostrophes to pluralise words. And I’m quite happy with these biases!
I totally agree. I was just taking a dig at OP. I don’t think it’s even possible to find anywhere without bias because each person brings with them a whole host of experience and memories that will bias them in one way or another
I’m not right leaning at all, but neither piracy, nor anarchy are things I’m interested in.

kbin.social is pretty neutral, in my experience. There’s communities here for both the left and the right. There’s naturally going to be some clash in the comments from time to time, but it goes both ways fairly equally, from what I’ve seen.
That said, regardless of what instance you go with, your experience is going to be dictated largely by what communities you end up subscribing to.

I was pretty happy with lemmy.world, only jumped ship there because they take forever to update the instance. Mander is good for what you describe but very limited in scope, which happens to suit me since I am well aligned with the scope.
Lemmy.world is only .world in name. Reality is that it’s very US centric.
