New Zealand. Far enough away from the world for it not to be cared for.
Has Australia as a buffer for stupidity.
Can’t be found on any good world map.
Is enough timezones ahead of everyone else to have forewarning about any shitstorm happening.
I’m from New Zealand, and although it does have much to recommend it, it does have some issues with crime, gangs, meth etc. similar to other Western countries. Nowhere near as bad as South Africa or a number of US cities, but not great either. There are more peaceful places believe it or not
Ahh, New Zealand. Very similar to the rest of the English-speaking world, but introverted.
Introverted? I thought all English speaking countries were on the introverted, occasionally loud, spectrum.
Source: an introverted Brazilian that could pass as extroverted in Australia.
New Zealand s cloaking abilities are insane
As long as you dont find any odd little rings, you should be fine out there.
There’s a reason billionaires are building their doomsday bunkers there.
And probably why Maori culture survived as long as it has.
New Zealand, an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, has no bordering countries. It lies over 1,500 km east of Australia across the Tasman Sea, with the Pacific Ocean stretching indefinitely to the north, east, and south. The total land area of the country encompasses approximately 268,021 km2 (103,483 mi2).
Portugal.
We’ve been doing our own thing since 1143. People are mostly nice, crime is very low, most social unrest culminates in barbecues instead of burning vehicles, like is usual in France or Spain.
Que bom! (How nice!)
Colonizes all continents on earth, perpetrated the biggest slave trade in history, only decolonizes well after WW2 literally the last country on earth to do so
“Just doing our own thing” lmao

Japan has to be a strong contender, if you are looking for peacefulness in your day to day life
the work life balance in Japan is pretty fucked up, isn’t it?
Can’t be violent if you’re busy working or too tired after work…
It depends on who you work for and what industry you’re in, but it is not as bad as it used to be. Have friends that worked in Japan
peacefulness in your day to day life
Social pressure is so intense that people rather kill themselves than do anything out of the ordinary… Do not confuse conformity with peace.
Not in my experience there. It the only place I have ever been where you can be in a gas station/ convenience store late on a Saturday night in a less than flash area, and see a guy rock up dressed like Liberace and do his shopping and flounce off without anyone even batting an eyelid let alone commenting. You wouldnt try that here. Yes, there is a degree of conformity enforced there around behaviour by social pressure, but in other places it is by violence
So they are too stiff to even make comments ;-)
You would have such freedom here in my region as well.
Saw a movie many years ago about…Taiwan, I think. The people were worried about hurting the WORMS when building a temple.
So I would say Taiwan if you mean “not bellicose”. Or do you mean serene?
I don’t know.
What’s the metrics?
Which place do you think is more happier?
Finland has been selected as the happiest country in the world several years in a row. Suffice to say we Finns aren’t too happy about that.
Lol. As a neighbor, I believe you. Grew up around a lot of Finns and all that grumpiness is just an act. You’re all cuddly inside but afraid to show it. Love you all.
That’s contentedness, not happiness.
And it’s reported contetedness.
So essentially the went around asking people how bad they have it. And it’s in Finnish culture never to complain.
And since we have good social security etc, people don’t end up homeless and can still eat.
So… “can’t complain”. And literally, can’t. I’ve tried. Several of the systems we have just ignore the flaws in them as the people they’re mostly for are poor people who have no influence. I was even abused in jail by the police and the guards. Didn’t give me my prescription meds. Watched me go manic three days in a cell, drawing on the walls with my own blood.
The officers who detained me, for weed, at my home, with a bullshit excuse to come in (and then they backdated the search warrant later) told me that I can take my prescription meds as long as they’re in the original packaging.
So my meds were even there.
But they watched me go crazy for 3 days, with no sleep, no food. Even shut off my water at one point.
So yeah, Finland isn’t perfect and we have a lot of mental health issues.
Definitely not “the happiest country in the world” despite the somewhat functional social security.
So happy they keep killing themselves!
I believe Bhutan is generally considered to be the happiest nation, but I’ve never been there, so don’t quote me on that.
I think Danmark is a good candidate.
Greenland
Peaceful and safest? It’s Iceland. For 14 years in a row as of 2024. It is also one of the most homogeneous and isolated.
Definitely! Iceland is a good country.
Iceland, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Singapore, Portugal, Slovenia, Japan, Switzerland, Canada
San Marino, or as ancient Rome called it, "YOU DID WHAT‽"
Andorra?
When was the last time you heard it on the news?
The country that was at war with Germany for 43 years?
But who hasn’t?
Pitcairn
I haven’t heard anything crazy going on Sealand.
but it’s not a place I would dream of going either.
Sealand actually has actually been involved in some crazy shit during its history.
Particularly if you want to look at stuff per capita
Honestly I dont know but I’d imagine somewhere like South Korea if I had to choose.
They’re embroiled in an ongoing civil war! Or, well, civil stalemate.
Racing Japan for the title of most overworked employees on Earth
And it currently has a higher suicide rate than Japan.
And lowest birthrate.
And there’s nothing peaceful about StarCraft or kpop.
And they have mandatory military service if I’m not mistaken.
South Korea is literally cyberpunk hell on earth…
I heard Null Island is pretty peaceful.
But that’s probably because it’s just a buoy.
