I’m thinking because of censorship, the great firewall, and different methods of surveillance. With those what are the methods for selfhosting locally and vpn or publicly through a domain.
VPNs are highly restricted. China has their own subset of the Internet that only quasi connects to the rest of the Internet. If it’s not politically or socially objectionable, it’s allowed with little to no oversight.
Gotta love totalitarian government’s hellbent on curtailing personal rights and privileges.
Pretty sure as long as it stays within China or is “approved” it’s just like any other, but I’m not expert on Chinese internet. I only have tangential experience with it and never visited China.
Why would it work difderently then here?

Thanks for the truly response. Within that I wonder how selfhosting works
