If you go to a protest with a firearm, you’re a fucking idiot. The police will have every reason to believe you’re a danger to public safety, whether you believe you are or not. Also, you better be trained to use that thing because if not, you’re going to be an additional problem if shit hits the fan. And if you get arrested for anything at all, your charges will become exponentially worse because you allegedly committed a crime while carrying a firearm. DON’T TAKE A FIREARM TO A PROTEST.

That is Elizabeth Eckford. She was one of the first Black students to go to what was up til then a white school in Arkansas. She was absolutely going as part of a movement for social progress while being the victim of discrimination her whole life. The discrimination is going on in the picture. Without a doubt, she is the person in most danger in that photo. She is in the right. She is present for progress. She is in danger. You know what she doesn’t have? A fucking gun. Why? Because if she took a gun, the people with power will have the reason to fuck the whole thing up. If you take a firearm to a protest, the police will have every reason to shut the entire thing down, and the news will run their propaganda machine in collaboration with the current administration to derail the entire message and come up with even stricter control. If Elizabeth Eckford had taken a gun, she would have been arrested and the news would be all about how Black people are violent, need more policing, and segregation needs to continue. If you take a gun, the news will be about how the left is violent. In these matters, objective truth doesn’t matter. It’s a social game, and those with power have more means to control the narrative. You need to be perfect because all they need is one little piece of plausible reason to fuck the whole thing up. It’s not fair. It’s fucked up. You are in danger. That’s all true. It’s also why people like Elizabeth Eckford are remembered. They took the risk that pushed us forward. The people that went in and fucked it up for everyone were forgotten. Do it the right way so we can make progress.

People will be in danger either way with the violence prone goons in power. If you are armed, there will be justification to shoot you. Protest at more public and friendly places. That way you will likely have allies nearby. Also, folks need to be situationally aware and plan an escape path if things turn too dangerous.
