Listen,
for folks who don’t know, I was a part of a small organizing team that led to a mass mobilization in 813 cities worldwide in 2019.I am not talking out of my ass.
You should be VERY VERY VERY careful in this environment about sharing flyers for events that identify NO organizer

if it’s not the start of a general strike idgaf. a single day of protests works about as well as blacking out a subreddit.
As a Brit looking in, America is a mess
So happy for Americans to get to re-enact Tianamen Square 2, (except without the scholars and students of course, you’re Americans)
Everyone just call in sick. Say it is because you didn’t want any vaccines.
I feel like the issue is with our fellow citizens who voted for him and the congressmen/woman. You can protest all you want but they’ll keep getting elected.
I think it’s gonna be one of those things that’s supposed to be a thing, but isn’t a thing.
But I’m not going to shit all over someone’s attempt to make a difference if it’s based on genuine good effort and intention.
What is the objective here? Are we asking for something specific or just yelling in frustration into the void?
Careful Now
“I Reject This Premise”
Please read my post’s header : just updated it with relevant source.
The subreddit has no stickied post nor does the sidebar describe the protest. I don’t see any description of what the objective is anywhere. I’d love to participate and try to accomplish something but what is it that we’re trying to accomplish other than making noise?
I guess making noise can stirr up unrest about the current situation? Its beneficial (imo) anyway.
I guess at the very least you announce you aren’t going to be nice and compliant.
As with most protests by the left it will be 10,000 people with 10,000 different priorities.
Love a protest in the middle of the workday, should be easy for most people to attend, no?
You realise that anytime is the middle of the work day.
Not everyone is working 9-5. People work shifts, nights, and weekends.
You realize that there are differences in the populations working at different times, right? Or are you just happy to be seen being outraged?
Sure I realise that, but I was more pointing out that whatever time a protest is there will be people like you unhappy with it.
I don’t know what gave you the impression I want to be seen outraged and I do hope you’re not making judgments about me over a single comment as that wouldn’t be very good.
It would be like me labelling you for the two comments I’ve seen you post. Positive intent my friend.
I’ve already seen someone on Lemmy say that they should feed their kids out of dumpsters if they lose their job that they rely on to live paycheck-to-paycheck (like almost half of Americans) and then their home because they can’t pay rent.
And if they lose their kids to CPS because they were made homeless and their parents were arrested during a general strike protest? Hey, they were clearly just MAGA bootlickers anyway.
If people aren’t willing to give up 1 hour of their corporate slavery to stop facism, then we are already doomed.
It’s 576 miles between El Paso and Austin. Please explain how someone is going to be able to get there within an hour with time to protest.
There’s a difference between “willing” and “able” 😅
“The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised.”
Your privilege is showing
Today you learn lot of people don’t live in their states capital city
Yea, I’m looking at this but thinking “that’s not happening lol” with my state. I’m in AZ and anyone outside Phoenix is probably driving at least 2 hours just to get there.
For me: 6 hours in a car with 5000ft (1500m) drop/climb just for a protest that’s vaguely “against Project 2025”. I could never justify it.
From what I can see about it, the organisers are some reddit mods. The person who started it was reddit.com/u/Evolved_Fungi. The subreddit is r/50501 and their bluesky is https://bsky.app/profile/50501movement.bsky.social.
A lot of people don’t know about it, its gotten almost no attention from the media, that I have noticed. All I have found is one newsweek article https://www.newsweek.com/50-states-anti-trump-protest-nationwide-february-5-details-2025300
Finally, there is real article in mainstream media that can be used to create a post in one of the main news communities.
Would you care to create it ?
N.B. it can’t be in /c/WorldNews because they do not accept news from the USA.Posted it, !news@lemmy.world. They said the same things in their discord about it when I shared it, funnily enough.
Thanks for helping people understand what this is.
Now, about their discord : do you mean they are saying people should see posts in here at Lemmy ?No, I meant that they were happy to see that a news org reported on 50501.
Can’t wait for all the pictures of these events with half a dozen people standing around looking lost.
No no, it’ll be a huge turnout and if you don’t agree then you’re an idiot for thinking that any significant amount of the population works 9-5 M-F. Just look at these comments! We can’t fail, we posted, “So when is the general strike and protest?” 78 times yesterday on every even vaguely political post, so turnout will be great in the middle of the day on Wednesday. Trust fam. /s
So what’s your point? We have to start somewhere.
I get that and I totally agree, but I don’t understand the food of comments here arguing that there won’t be reduced turnout in the middle of a Wednesday vs on a weekend. Most people with a full time job can’t just up and leave in the middle of a weekday with less than a week of notice, especially in large states with capitals that are far away. Turnout would be much better if it was on a weekend, and anybody denying that doesn’t live in reality.
This will be too short notice and too expensive for many to attend. Generalstrikeus.com has the right idea
I was pretty sure I knew what a general strike was… wouldn’t any strike be more expensive than 2-4 hours of protest, and wouldn’t a general strike involve much more planning than a normal strike due to the scale and breadth?
Also I was worried that generalstrikeus.com was too soon. The UAW general strike is planned for 2028 to get time to plan, because a general strike isn’t something you can just do successfully at the drop of a hat.
Could be used to organise for a general strike though.
Added your GeneralStrikeUS.com link to the header of my post, thanks for this information
5th Nov 2024 - was the chance to prevent this. Trump’s team made it clear on the direction they were heading and no-one heeded the warnings. 35% didn’t vote and the majority of those that did voted for him, which either means they agree with the direction or were deluded into thinking it wasn’t going to happen.
I’m all for protest but I don’t think you have a chance of changing anything, he owns the legislature and the voting public allowed it to happend.
I’m not American or a resident of US but that’s just my opinion as an outsider.
ah yes, voting, famously known for being the only way humans have ever changed their material circumstances.
now that voting has failed us, the only thing left to do is nothing!
Sadly voting didn’t fail you. US is in the same predicament UK was in after Brexit. Complacency at the expected outcome, a belief that some people couldn’t be so stupid as to vote for Trump/Brexit and yet, they did in the majority.
Regardless of how fucked up the election process is, inany countries I’m not singling out the US, that is the reason that you feel failed, look at your countrymen that swallowed the snake oil and ask the question why?
I made huge stink about those that failed to vote. Meanwhile people blame third parties. Bro they voted at least.
How the fuck can you fuck up a protest plan this badly??? Is this intentional sabotage for an effective turn out? Fucking idiots.
plan it on a wednesday in the middle of the day so everyone can say “ah, i’m busy” and feel satisfied for doing jack shit
Sorry, this for me is trolling, so, i’m blocking your account.
Have a nice life.👍 good for you
This made me lol out loud irl.
Don’t start protesting on a week day. Protest on the weekend to get a show of force. If demands are not met, follow it up with a general strike for your next protest.
People will be more willing to join in strike action if they know they are not alone.
