Did you know? Lemmy instances with *key instances!
In case you’ve been interested in wading into microblogging and didn’t feel like Mastodon was your thing, the Lemmy instance you’re on might have a *key instance to check out!
I’m posting to your from Sharkey World, Lemmy World’s Sharkey instance. However I was surprised to find that Programming Dev has an Iceshrimp instance over at Bytes. Meanwhile I first learned of Blahaj Zone from their Sharkey instance awhile before they spun up their lemmy instance.
One of the cool features of each of these is that even if you’re not into microblogging, they also basically have a blogging feature built in alongside it in the form of a Pages feature. Prefer the long form? Write there and then easily turn around and share it with a microblog post.
Are there any other Lemmy instances out there running *key instances? Mention’em in the comments!
I think this post would have been a lot more enlightening had it gone into what exactly *key instances are.
I agree, unfortunately edits don’t federate from where I posted this, so I made this thread in place of that.
Does Missket connect with Bluesky? Some of my friends moved over there, but I don’t like using Bluesky itself.
I checked out some instances and it seems that most have a really specific user base. Are there more general instances like .world?
@maltasoron For the connection to Bluesky (and some others), #Friendica is probably the best choice in the Fediverse. Among other things, there is a Bluesky connector. Here is a guide (in German): friendica-hilfe.gitbook.io/fri…
@VeSpectaglesThanks!
Lemmy instances with *key instances!
Huh?
You read the post past that sentence?
Edit: for those who don’t know, Sharkey, Iceshrimp, Catodon and Firefish are fediverse software that sometimes are referred to as “*key” because they are all forks of the Misskey software.
As the other person that replied indicated, *key is shorthand for Misskey and Misskey fork instances like Sharkey/Iceshrimp/etc.
There’s a bunch of them and since many of the instances with primarily English or other language (besides Japanese) people on them aren’t using Misskey (or any specific fork) it’s easier to write *key.
I should have clarified that in the OP, but I hoped the body text would help with that. My bad!

This is you right now. Most of us have no idea what Misskey is.
I was more commenting on the fact that it’s an incomplete sentence. What does it have to do with Lemmy?
Lemmy instances (verb) with *key instances (noun).
Threw me off too.
Seems to be this one:
misskey-hub.netMisskey?
@VeSpectagles I wouldn’t make myself dependent on whether the *key instance is by the same admins as the lemmy instance. The *key softwares are generally recommended if you want a lot of functions and a modern interface. I particularly like the Antennas / News Pickers, with which the content can be structured very well according to your own search terms (a kind of topic-specific timelines). The interaction with Lemmy also works well.
There is an instance list for #Sharkey and #Iceshrimp instances hereI run Funkwhale at music.peertube.wtf. Not using it for that much though 😁
Is this like Tumblr or something?
Is this like Tumblr or something?
I think Misskey and its forks are among the Fediverse services that are not modelled on a specific commercial platform, but have created something completely their own.
The forks differ in details (see comparison), but the user experience is relatively similar.
That is helpful thank you.
