Just because you don’t like her music doesn’t mean it’s mediocre or that you are somehow more evolved.
When it comes to personal taste, how do you decide who’s opinion is the right one - like you have taken it upon yourself to do and gate keep ‘good’ music.
Her music is undeniably popular and all of those people who like it would disagree with you about it being mediocre. So what makes you right and them wrong? There is no objectivity when it comes to things like music, only subjectivity.
Before you jump on me and label be a Taylor Swift fan, the big reveal is, I’m not. I have no problem with you saying “I think her music is mediocre” but that is different to saying " her music is mediocre" the former is an opinion, the latter is trying to paint an opinion as a fact.
This comment will probably not be received well simply because so many people seem to dislike Taylor Swift on here and will miss my point. Taylor Swift is irrelevant to my point, sub in any band or artist if you need to understand that.
Nah I agree. I also have to remind myself of similar when talking about artist I don’t like. You gotta give props where they’re due and I think her sales number do a lot of that talking. I don’t like most of her music either, won’t deny I loved blank spaces but have been aware of Swifties for a minute. Again however, any shade I throw at the first coworker who I’m thinking of I can’t do without mentioning it was over a decade ago. Swift has had a growing, nearly fervent fan base since. As “pop” as it may be, which I don’t generally like, if I thought it was that shit why don’t I go out and make said shit and become a millionaire?
I think what they mean is that its not taylor swifts music that is impressive. She spends a lot of time nurturing her fan base and puts on the kinds of shows they want to see.
I think its fair to have the discussion around whether its difficult to write the music she does. I’d argue the instrumentals are usually very simple, and many songs use electronic versions rather than live instruments. Its both over simplistic and mechanical but its very catchy and repetitive.
The lyrical content is another side of it and she is a strong singer, although the perspective she carries in songs misses with a lot of the older crowd for some reason. She comes across to me as someone who is adept at turning misfortune into fortune. After long enough its hard to feel bad for misfortune when you know it will work out in her advantage anyways, and I’m sure she knows this too.
I agree with your post for the most part but “I think” are wasted words. Every statement is a something someone thinks unless they cite a source. Only include “I think” if you’re doubting your opinions.

Because the key ingredient is not the music but the amount of luck.
Starting out with money and connections generally helps. I don’t know if that’s the case with her though.
It is, to a degree.
She’s no billy strings.
And thats the reason people dont like talking about taylor swift the great musician, because thats not what happened.
In fact, having an irrational hate for whatever is popular at the moment probably makes you less mature than the average person.
